Long Haul Survivor Journey Continues

WORTHINGTON, IA (CBS2/FOX28) The Long Haul Survivors journey stared in November of 2012, a few months after Eldon Jaeger lost his daughter, Brenda, to cancer. Once most of the work was done, Eldon and his truck took a more literal journey.

"16,222 miles, 72 events, 19 states, 14,242 tickets for a total of 142,420 dollars, said Jaeger.

On May 3rd, Eldon called the lucky raffle winner, Brittany Dunigan, a Michigan resident who had bought her winning ticket at a truck show in Louisville, Kentucky.

"It's just a beautiful truck, I mean, it's immaculate and it's for such a great cause, said Dunigan.

Like in Eldons, cancer has been in Brittanys family. Her cousin recently lost his battle with lymphoma.

"Mason had already passed away, and then Cole, he's got it now but they're going to try a bone marrow transplant to see if that will help him, said Dunigan.

The Long Haul Survivor might be leaving Eldons garage in Worthington, but its journey is far from over.

"She's actually going to try to be in Michigan tomorrow for a cancer parade in Michigan which is pretty awesome as far as I'm concerned, said Jaeger.

Brittany says shell keep sharing the truck in parades and at trucks shows, just like Eldon has been. For a girl who thought she wouldnt ever own the big purple Peterbuilt, its like the planets aligned.

"It's just awesome, said Dunigan. I've never won nothing like this before. It's like winning the lottery, it really is."

Or maybe, its meant to be.

"Well I have this feeling that she's got a lot of characteristics the same as our daughter Brenda had, said Jaeger. It seems like there's a lot of the resemblance there."
