Trial Set for Lake Mills Standoff Suspect

NORTHWOOD, Iowa (AP) -- A June trial has been scheduled for a 21-year-old man accused of firing at officers during a standoff in January in northern Iowa.
Matthew Davis, of Lake Mills, pleaded not guilty last week to a charge of attempted murder. His trial is scheduled to begin June 11 in Northwood.
Authorities say Davis had called 911 on Jan. 30 to report that he was suicidal and had cut himself. Authorities say Davis shot at deputies who responded to help an ambulance crew that had been sent to the rural Lake Mills residence. Officers fired back but did not hit Davis.
He left the house about 4 1/2 hours later and was taken into custody. Davis was treated for knife wounds at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
