DMS Airport to add "Express" Security

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCCI-TV) Transportation Security Administration officials said Friday that they are adding an express security lane at the Des Moines International Airport for travelers with a Precheck ID.

The new TSA Precheck lane will allow pre-approved travelers to leave on their shoes, belts, keep laptops in their case and carry liquid and gels in a 311 bag.

Travelers must apply to be pre-approved for the faster security lane, which has been added at other airports throughout the U.S.

Kathy Schneider occasionally gets a TSA Precheck stamped on her airline ticket.

"Some days I feel guilty sneaking ahead of everybody," said Schneider.

Now, it's not just frequent fliers who can fly around the long security lines

The TSA has opened its first Precheck enrollment center at 1233 8th Street in West Des Moines, where anyone can apply for expedited screening benefits.

"This is a fantastic opportunity to take low risk passengers and move them into expedited screening to move our resources and attention to focus on passengers we know very little about," said Jay Brainard, federal security director.

To get Precheck you need to bring your passport or driver's license and birth certificate. They take your finger prints and ask a few background questions.

If you're cleared for takeoff, at 117 airports around the country, you no longer have to stand in long lines.

Officials said you can speed up the Precheck application process by first filling out the online form.  Spending a little time now to get the Precheck approval could mean lots of saved time when you travel.

It does cost $85 for the TSA Precheck, which is valid for five years.
