Inmates Not Moving to New Prison

Cedar Rapids, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) - the Iowa Department of Corrections was all set to begin transferring prisoners to a brand new facility - but now there's a hold-up.

The current Iowa State Penitentiary is the oldest prison on this side of the Mississippi River, so state leaders built a new one.

This new, $132 million prison was supposed to be ready soon, but new tests show, the geothermal system isn't able to heat and cool the building for Iowas hot summers and freezing winters.

That means the 550 inmates will have to wait until that problem is fixed.

Right now, leaders don't know when that will be.
