Washington County Phone Scam

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Iowa (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- Authorities in Washington County are advising residents there to be cautious about a potential phone scam.

The Washington County Communications Center says they've received reports of a caller claiming to be an employee of the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

They also say the caller's I.D. is set to appear as the business number for the sheriff's office.

The caller tells residents that they've won $1-million, but they must first send $3,000 in order to receive the winnings.

Officials urge residents to not take part in this or any other questionable transaction over the phone.
