Legislature Returning to Work Next Week

DES MOINES, IA (AP) - The Iowa Legislature will return next week to finish this year's work.

Democratic Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal says most pieces of the budget and a few remaining policy bills are near resolution but the work couldn't be finished in another day so he'll send lawmakers home for the weekend and hopes to finish work on Monday and Tuesday.

Some budget bills including transportation and education have passed both chambers but others including agriculture and health and human services are still in conference committees which work out difference between House and Senate versions.

An anti-bullying bill has moved from the House back to the Senate with changes and a broadband expansion bill has been defeated in the House.

Both are priorities Gov. Terry Branstad set in January.
