Nuclear Safety Drill

PALO, Iowa (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- Some Corridor communities are taking steps to ensure the safety of their residents who live near Iowa's only nuclear power plant.

Linn and Benton Counties teamed up with Next Era Energy for a one-day exercise to test the safety protocol for those who live in the vicinity of the Duane Arnold Energy Center in Palo.

FEMA, who evaluated the drill, says keeping communities involved in these kinds of drills is an important step in keeping the public safe.

A full evaluation of the drill could take months to complete before results can be released.
