Maquoketa Officer Shot, Suspect Dead

MAQUOKETA, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) --A Maquoketa police officer is in the hospital this morning after being shot during a traffic stop.  Police say that just before three, the officer pulled someone over on West Grove St.  That's when he was shot and the suspect fled.
Authorities Tuesday morning said the suspect led police on a chase.  Later, authorities found the suspect in a vehicle that had been involved in a rollover crash.  The suspect is dead but authorities would not say how he died.  He is identified as 30-year-old Aaron E. Scott of Wyoming, IA.
The unidentified officer was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released for his injuries.  Authorities would only say that he was a 13-year veteran of the Maquoketa Police force.
He will be placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into the shooting.
Neighbors are still coming to grips with what happened Tuesday morning.  "You'd never think it would happen in a town this size. I got woke up to my sister texting me then I got another text that there's something going down in Maquoketa it's crazy."  Said Greg Johnson.
