U of I Went Over Outback Bowl Budget

IOWA CITY, Iowa (CBS 2/FOX28) -- University of Iowa officials are citing a charter plane as the reason the school exceeded its budget for this past January's visit to the Outback Bowl.

According to documents released on Tuesday, the school spent $2,019,375 for the game. The Big Ten Conference provided $1,825,000 of that money.

The documents say the school spent $747,288 alone on a charter plane for the team, coaches, marching band, and others with the school.

The school also cites an increase in expenses for complimentary tickets as a reason the school went over-budget.

The University of Iowa Athletic Department, which is self-sustaining, says it will balance the bowl budget with revenue from its annual operations.
