Mt. Mercy President Laurie Hamen

When Laurie Hamen first stepped onto the Mt. Mercy University campus in February, she knew she had alot to build, and build upon.  She says, " When I came on campus, I found real openness to growth.  I saw opportunities that were there for growth and change."
Hamen took a rather unconventional route to the President's office.  She was a Home Economics major, then got her Masters in Counseling.  She would ultimately get a law degree at DePaul University when her youngest daughter went to college.  She spent the last 18 years at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois.
As the first woman President at Mt. Mercy, she looks forward to the future, "I think we've done a good job at having different types of people in all positions.  I'm proud of that and I'm just glad to represent Mt. Mercy in that way.  If I'm one of a few, that's great."
