Fire Station Open House

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (CBS 2/Fox 28) -- The public is invited to an Open House and Community Tours of Fire Station 3 at 3520 Crestwood Drive NW this Saturday, April 26th.  There will be a Fire Hose Uncoupling Ceremony and Dedication Event at 10:00 a.m. followed by an Open House and Community Tours until 1:00 p.m. The new west side fire station dedication will be a special event for the firefighters, neighborhood, and the community.  Dignitaries, including the Cedar Rapids City Council and Fire Station #3 Relocation Citizen Advisory Committee, and members of the Cedar Rapids Fire Department Honor Guard will uncouple a fire hose as part of the activities.  Speakers will include Mayor Ron Corbett, City Manager Jeff Pomeranz, and Fire Chief Mark English.  Visitor parking will be available behind the fire station and on the side street to the east of the fire station.  Street parking in the area may be available as well.

The relocation of Fire Station 3 and Central Fire Station increased the number of homes and businesses within 1 1/2 miles of a fire station in the city by nearly 9 square miles, or 12.5 percent.
