Nevada Rancher Stands by Controversial Comments
Cedar Rapids, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) - In the national spotlight, a Nevada rancher is losing support, after recent remarks that some are calling racist and offensive.
National lawmakers and communities across the country were backing Cliven Bundy, as he battled the Bureau of Land Management.
He said it was his right to graze cattle on public land, but the government disagreed.
With the spotlight on him, he's been speaking out about the negative effects of government oversight, and in a recent speech he made comments, insinuating the government was responsible for some social gaps between black and white people - and those remarks went viral.
Bundy says he didn't mean for his comments to be racist, he was just commenting on the overreach of government in black communities.
Senator Rand Paul was among many who have now backed away from supporting Bundy, tweeting - "Cliven Bundy's remarks on race are offensive, and I wholeheartedly disagree with him."
