Ferry Supporters Awaiting Approval

MONTROSE, Iowa (AP) -- Supporters of a ferry that would go back and forth between Iowa and Illinois are waiting approval from the U.S. Coast Guard.

Randy Douglas of Nauvoo River Experiences says the approval is necessary to build the boat.  It would then cross between Iowa at Montrose and Illinois at Nauvoo.

The group has a five-year lease with both Montrose and Nauvoo to dock the ferry and board passengers.  The company also want's to offer experiences to Nauvoo's historic downtown.

It will take 60 days to build once approved by the Coast Guard.  Officials hope to have it in service during the summer.
