Iowa Man Charged With Murder In Fed. Court

CEDAR RAPIDS (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- A man accused of killing a teenager on the Meskwaki Settlement was formally charged with first-degree murder in federal court Friday. Twenty-year-old Jonathan Youngbear was charged in a hearing in Cedar Rapids.

He's accused of stabbing 17-year-old Severn Jefferson in the chest on February 24, after a day and a half of drinking and smoking meth.

Youngbear is now being held without bond. A judge Friday set Youngbear's trial date for June 23. If convicted, he faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison.
