Coe Students Cleanup

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- Coe College student managed to log 500 hours of community service, all just on Sunday.

Armed with trash bags and gloves, the students teamed up with residents of the Moundview neighborhood in Cedar Rapids to cleanup sidewalks, streets, and medians along First Avenue.

Kendally Recker says she hopes the student's efforts will inspire others to think before they litter.

"Seeing us out and about cleaning up maybe it will convince people not to throw their trash out the window from Wendy's or something like that," Recker said. "Hopefully they'll keep it in their car and throw it in the trash can."

Instead of throwing everything away, the students say as much of the debris as possible will be recycled.
