Iowa Paint Horse Show

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- When you hear the term "paint horse", you're probably more inclined to mentally picture an art utensil versus an actual horse.

But the more than 100 riders who gathered at the Kirkwood campus in Cedar Rapids on Sunday, they'll tell you a paint horse is in fact, a spotted horse.

At the Iowa Paint Horse Show, riders from all around the Midwest got to show off their and their horse's skills.

A lot of hard work goes into competitions like these, rider Kaitlin Westphal said.

"You have to work as one team with your horse," Westphal said. "If you come out here and watch these riders and these horses, they have worked hours and hours through blood sweat and tears to get their horse ready."

The Iowa Paint Horse show is a qualifying competition for the World Paint Horse Show in Texas.
