CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS2/FOX28) On chilly winter nights in Cedar Rapids, things heat up inside Cedar Rapids Club CO2.
All around, folks are learning Salsa, Bachata, Merengue and Cha-Cha. Its an event put on by J& E Entertainment called Sunset Salsa. The Cedar Rapids events are sponsored by Veridian Credit Union and promoted by Diversity Focus where J&E Entertainments Edwin Alvarado, is the Latino Fellow.
Sunset Salsa originated in Iowa in Iowa City in May of 2012. The dances in Iowa City are outside and often on the Pedestrian Mall. Club CO2 offers the opportunity for Sunset Salsa to head indoors during the cold winter months
In 2014, Sunset Salsas outdoors series will take place in Iowa City starting May 9th. It is a public assembly and the entire community is welcome to attend. There aren't any age restrictions and its free. Sunset Salsa is also planning to eventually expand to the Quad Cities.
Salsa dancing is about socializing, its about networking , when you go salsa dancing you feel free to ask anybody in the club to salsa dance! Alvarado said.
Sunset Salsa helps folks get comfortable by offering free lessons for dancers as well. Ken has been an instructor with Sunset for six years.
