Man Accused Of Assaulting Cab Riders

IOWA CITY (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- A West Liberty man is accused of sexually assaulting two women who he gave rides to while driving a taxi cab in Iowa City.

Police say 58-year-old Rufino Ruiz offered a woman a ride on September 29th of last year. When the victim got into the taxi cab, Ruiz allegedly offered her drugs and alcohol, which she turned down. The victim says the man drove her around instead of going to her home. When he eventually brought her home, he began rubbing the victim's inner thigh, kissing her, and fondling her breasts while she was trying to undo her seatbelt. The victim later identified Ruiz out of a group of photographs.

Police say another woman also identified Ruiz as the man who assaulted her in a taxi cab on January 15th of this year. The victim says Ruiz gave her a cab ride home, parked, then began fondling her breasts and rubbing her inner thighs. She says Ruiz also tried to put his hand down her pants while she was trying to open the cab door.

As of Thursday afternoon, Rufino Ruiz was being held in the Johnson County Jail.
