ICCSD Hires Contractor for Third High School

IOWA CITY, Iowa (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- The Iowa City Community School District is moving closer to building a third high school in North Liberty.

During a meeting on Tuesday, school board members voted to award a contract to SVPA Architect, Inc. in West Des Moines.

Under the contract, the high school will be built in three phases. The first two phases include the building of a 1,000 students facility and an outdoor athletic facility set to be open by the fall of 2017. A third phase would include an additional 500 student facility set to open in the fall of 2021.

On Monday, the ICCSD closed on the purchase of a 74-acre piece of land at the intersection of N. Dubuque and North Liberty Streets.

The estimated cost of building the school is expected to run at $67.4 mil.
