McCaffery's Confirms Son Has Tumor on Thyroid

IOWA CITY, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- Iowa head basketball coach Fran McCaffery announced today that his son is suffering from a tumor on his thyroid.
    He released a statement saying Patrick McCaffery is currently undergoing more tests before they figure out a course of action.
    They found out about his condition last Wednesday and a biopsy was performed yesterday.
    They ask that the public respect his family's privacy as they address Patrick's health.

He released this full statement:

Last week it was discovered that our son, Patrick, has a tumor on his thyroid," McCaffery's statement said. "Patrick is currently undergoing tests and is scheduled to undergo surgery next Wednesday, March 19, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Once the mass is removed, additional tests will determine a further course of action."

The statement went on to say "I was made aware of Patricks condition prior to traveling to East Lansing, Mich., last Wednesday. Margaret and I notified our players and staff of Patricks health issue after a biopsy was done on Monday (of this week). We appreciate your concern, and ask that you respect our familys privacy as we address Patricks health.
