Lasley Jr. Appears In Federal Court

CEDAR RAPIDS (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- The man accused of killing his parents on their Meskwaki Settlement home last month made his first court appearance today on federal charges.

Gordon Lasley Jr. is charged with murder in the February 5th deaths of his father, Gordon Lasley Sr. and his mother, Kim Lasley.

Two first-degree murder charges filed by the State of Iowa were dismissed Monday. It's not clear yet what degree of murder Lasley is being charged with in federal court. If he is charged federally with first-degree murder, he could face the death penalty if convicted.

Lasley's next court appearance is scheduled for noon Thursday in U.S. District Court, in Cedar Rapids.
