Bloomfield Placed Under House Arrest

IOWA CITY, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- A former Iowa City man accused of murdering his wife has been released from jail and placed under house arrest.  John Bloomfield is accused of killing Frances Bloomfield in 1997 at the couple's Iowa City home.  Since her death, Bloomfield had moved to Minnesota.
Court records published Tuesday showed a judge approved Bloomfield's request to be placed under house arrest.  His defense argued last month that the murder suspect suffers from several ailments and may have less than a year to live.
Before his release from jail, Bloomfield was required to surrender all passports to corrections officials.  Bloomfield's murder case is scheduled to go to trial in July.
