Iowa Senate Backs Clean Energy Tax Credits

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- The Iowa Senate has advanced a pair of proposals intended to move the state forward with solar power and other forms of clean energy.

The Democratic-led Senate unanimously voted Thursday in favor of two bills meant to expand the production of clean energy in Iowa. The measures now go to the Republican-controlled House, where legislative leaders said they'd be willing to consider the bills.

The first bill would triple the amount of solar energy tax credits available to Iowa residents, farmers and business. The second would extend the deadline and tax credit available to ensure the completion of wind energy and other projects.

Democratic Sen. Robert Hogg, of Cedar Rapids, says the legislation is important to guarantee that Iowa remains a leader in clean energy production.
