Iowa State Buckets Mean Corridor Cash
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS2/FOX28) For a city that normally lives for the Black and Gold, theres a storm coming through, a cyclone.
Its always a lot of fun to have that comradery and have people around you that have the same interest, said Iowa State 1985 alumnus Tom Simon.
Even with the University of Iowa just a few miles down Interstate 380, the Cardinal and Gold still has a presence in Cedar Rapids. Iowa State Alumni Association Club President Craig Adamson says Iowa State has the most alumni that stay in Iowa.
There's plenty of opportunities here and I think there's a lot of Iowa kids that recognize that this is a great place to grow up, said Adamson.
I think most of it is the Rockwell Collins connection and the engineers Rockwell Collins recruits from Iowa state, said Simon. The people that work in my hallways at Collins are all Iowa Staters oddly enough.
So when the Cyclones play well, local restaurants win too.
It definitely brings in a lot of traffic and things get pretty crazy in here. The bar gets full, sometimes theres not even an open seat, said Fieldhouse Bartender Tiffany Spencer.
Adamson says most families that come through will probably spend $50-70.
Obviously that has a trickle down impact and you take that and times it by 300-400 families who are doing the same thing, said Adamson. Better to keep that money here than send it to new York city.
It brings "big city" nights to restaurants all over the corridor.
