O'Brien Promotes Regional Food in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS (CBS 2/FOX 28) --
The new farm bill could help Iowa's agriculture and business sectors.
Agriculture Department Deputy Under Secretary Doug O'Brien stopped in Cedar Rapids on February 27th to explain how the bill will expand regional food systems.
He says city markets, like the one in Newbo, show how promoting locally-grown food can benefit the economy.
"There's a lot of evidence that consumers demand and really want food that comes from the region, comes from their local places.  They want to know who's growing their food," said O'Brien.
The Agriculture Department says it has helped create and keep more than 1,000 jobs in Iowa in the past year.
