CR Puppy Bowl Athletes

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS2/FOX28) Even though there arent any local teams in the big game, two eastern Iowa four-legged athletes will make their national TV debut tomorrow. Suri and Cici might not be Peyton Manning or Russell Wilson, but the pups are special for different reasons. Theyre in this years Puppy Bowl and theyre rescues.

Suris owner, Carl Bromberg, says her parents, Jesse and Titan, lived in some pretty terrible conditions.

They were in six inches of water in their kennels, they were kept outside 24/7, said Bromberg.

When Carl took them all in, It took me a week to get them guys to just even come inside and get their trust, said Bromberg.

Thats what recuses like Suri and Cici face all the time. But when theyre paired with owners who care for them well, it can turn their lives around. Thats where the Puppy Bowl comes in. It seeks out rescue and shelter dogs to feature in the game each year. Carl and Lindsey Grubb, Cicis owner, take it one step farther with a watch party and fundraiser.

"It definitely helps raise the awareness, prevent things like puppy mills and help give a dog a second chance that they might not get one elsewhere, said Grubb.

The money goes to the Last Hope Animal Rescue. It helps the shelter stay open and help other puppies like Cici and Suri.

"Yeah, she's quite the little miracle pup, said Bromberg.

The watch party is tomorrow from one to five at Shueys in Shueyville. Pets are welcome and anyone who comes will have a chance to meet Cici and Suri.
