Bomb Squad: Suspicious Device Safe

WATERLOO, IA (CBS2/FOX28) - A portion of a Waterloo road was blocked off for hours as police investigated a suspicious device.

Wednesday afternoon, Waterloo Police were called to Liberty Car Company for a complaint of a female customer who was overdue from a vehicle test drive.

The female eventually returned and officers spoke to her and 33-year-old Daniel Devries, of Waterloo.

Police arrested Devries for Possesion of  Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

A short time later, officers found a suspicious device in the vehicle they initially thought was a homemade explosive.

The Waterloo Police Departments Bomb Unit responded and found that the device was safe.

In addition to the drug charges, Devries now faces charges of Possession of an Incendiary Explosive Device and/or Material.

He is being held in the Black Hawk County Jail.

During the investigation, traffic was backed up on E. Mullan/Hwy 63 downtown. The area was cleared by police just before 10 P.M.
