Former County Treasurer Charged With Theft

IOWA COUNTY (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- A former Iowa county Treasurer and member of the Board of Supervisors is facing felony theft charges. Kimberly Tanke was charged with theft in the first degree, a class C felony.

The charges come after an investigation by the Iowa County Sheriff and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. The investigation started after the county's private auditing firm and the current Iowa County Treasurer and Auditor discovered missing funds, which they reported to law enforcement.

The audit found more than $62,000 missing. The missing funds were found between 2006 and 2010, when Tanke served as Iowa County Treasurer.
