Iowa DOT Unveils Budget for New Logo

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- The Iowa Department of Transportation says it will spend less than $100,000 to implement a new logo.

The department told DOT workers in an email that it would cost "below $100,000" over a five-year period to implement the new logo in offices, vehicles and other printed materials.

DOT Director Paul Trombino says in the email that the agency is trying to reinvent itself. The new logo replaces one that's been used for 32 years.

The department says it's been falling $215 million short annually of meeting critical needs for repairs and upgrades for the 114,000-mile road system. Some lawmakers have considered a proposal to raise Iowa's gas tax by 10 cents to generate more money, but it's been unpopular in the state legislature.
