Protect Yourself From Consumer Fraud

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller is urging customers who could be affected by Target's security breach to keep aware of their financial records.
Miller's warning comes after news that 40-million customers of Target may have had their personal information stolen by hackers.
"We don't yet know who stole this data or what they plan to do with it," Miller said.  "For now, consumers can best protect themselves by closely watching their financial statements."
All consumers are entitled to a free annual credit report from each of the three national credit bureaus.  You can get yours by clicking here.  Or call toll-free at 1-877-322-8228.  You can also write to Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348.
The Attorney General says consumers need to be aware of "look-alike" websites that charge you for your credit report.
Target has also established a hotline for customers who believe they have been affected by the breach.  If you are one of them, you can call toll-free at 1-866-852-8680.
