Shopping A Day Before Christmas

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28)--Today's bone chilling temps didn't stop thousands from streaming into area stores looking for those last second gifts.

By now many say they've gotten all their shopping done and over with, but we found there are also various options out there for those still searching for that perfect gift.

"It's kind of relaxed in here. We do not pressure a lot of people so it's just a fun store, said co-owner of Brambles Beth Heideman.

Brambles is its name and co-owner Beth Heideman says last minute shoppers come here to get away from the hustle and bustle of malls.

"We have a lot of unique holiday items. We have Christmas trees. We have Santas."

With only one day before Christmas Beth says she sees one group the most when it comes to late shopping.

"We have a few men that come in at the last minute.

While some of those men come to her local gift shop to find presents for loved ones, others opt for big box stores.

Take Jack Kohn who came to best buy for one simple reason.

"Well, I'm just doing some shopping for my dad. Last minute. I got most of my stuff a couple weeks ago but there's one thing left to get, he said.

Jack says he usually likes doing all his shopping in one store but his dad's just special.

"All the stores that I looked at, I just couldn't find anything good enough, he said.

Beth says people like jack might want to try Brambles.

"It's not something that you can just run across everywhere, she said.

Brambles closed at three this afternoon but for those shopping, there are a few stores still open including Toys R Us.
