Christmas Holiday Rush Continues

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28)--With less than two weeks away before Christmas, the roadways and parking lots are filled with drivers looking to get that last minute shopping done.

Whether they are almost finished with their shopping or just getting started people say the holiday shopping rush is all worth it for one simple reason.

Parking lots are full

"We are just picking up a few last things for Christmas, said Beth Adams who was out shopping with her kids.

And the clock is ticking.

"Just started, but we're doing okay, said Tamanda Drexler.

Tis the season to find the best deals for friends and family.

Some already know exactly what they want.

"I want an i-pad, said Adams little girl.

Others don't mind how much cash they drop on presents this year.

Like Patricio Espinosa who has already spent more than $3,000 and still has more shopping to do for Nieces, Nephews, Mom, Dad, brother sisters, he said.

Patricio is spending more than three times what most will shell out.

The National Retail Federation says on average shoppers spend about 732 dollars on Christmas gifts.

"I think it's kind of a way to express what I feel for my family, why not give them back the love that you feel for them, he said.

That love is going home to Ecuador but Tamanda Drexler is hoping for the same feeling right here at home.

"I usually do it just to see their faces. Watch the smiles and their eyes light up, she said.

A satisfaction that makes the holiday rush worth it.

"Well I hope they will like it and say ahhhhh....hopefully.... they are going to be really excited, he said

Wherever they celebrate.
