Man Accused of Shooting at Passing Cars

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Police say a man suspected of shooting at passing vehicles in a Des Moines neighborhood is in custody and injured.
Des Moines Police Sgt. Jason Halifax says officers exchanged gunfire with the man Wednesday afternoon on the city's south side, following multiple reports of shots being fired in the area. He was injured and taken to a local hospital.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, is in critical condition. Halifax says he was not moving when he was found in the backyard of a house that records show he had lived in. Halifax says charges are pending.
Halifax says another man was hurt in the shooting, but his injuries are not life-threatening. He drove himself to a clinic before he was transferred to a hospital.
