Emergency Mgmt Plans Post-Tornado

IOWA CITY, IA (CBS2/FOX28) -- The Johnson County Emergency Management Agency and other agencies statewide are reviewing their practices and running exercises to refresh their reactions to a twister.

The devastation after tornadoes hit Illinois last weekend serves as a reminder that severe weather season is not yet over.

Officials says coordinating a plan with first responders and nonprofit agencies has become increasingly important.

"All the subject matter experts agree that we're seeing more of these extreme weather events, whether it's drought, blizzard or tornadoes, and so we really try to keep people aware of: what's your risk, and how do you have a plan?" said Johnson County EMA Coordinator Dave Wilson said.

While counties are reviewing their responses, this is a great time for families to review their emergency plans, as well, Wilson said.
