Hardacre Group Now a 501(c)3

TIPTON, Iowa (CBS 2/FOX 28) - A hard-working group in this Cedar County community has a new designation that will be a big help to restoring the historic Hardacre Theatre.

The Hardacre Theatre Preservation Association is now certified as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. The group is trying to save and refurbish the nearly 100-year old venue which closed this past August.

The new status means future donations to the Hardacre group will be tax deductible. In addition, the organization can now pursue grants and funding that are available only to non-profits.

Members say the movie industry's rapid transition from film to digital forced them to close the theatre's doors after the 16th Annual Hardacre Film Festival, the longest running independent film festival in the state of Iowa. Organizers hope to raise enough money to buy the theatre building and repurpose it for live and recorded entertainment.
