Cedar Rapids Sports Facility Audit
CEDAR RAPIDS (CBS 2/FOX 28) --
Cedar Rapids leaders are now looking to increase business in the city using amateur sports.
An audit by the National Association of Sports Commissioners shows that Cedar Rapids has gained more than $80 million since 2002 from visitor spending during sporting events.
The report shows if the city continues promoting and expanding sports at new facilities, that number could jump to $31 million more.
Key sports include baseball, softball, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, cross country, figure skating, and dance competitions.
The city does have areas for improvement, though.
More practice fields and event volunteers are needed.
