City In Iowa Coldest In Nation

ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) -- Temperatures are warming across the Midwest after Arctic air gave cities in Iowa and South Dakota the distinction as the coldest places in the nation Tuesday morning.

The National Weather Service says Spencer in northwest Iowa and Aberdeen in northeast South Dakota both hit minus 1.

Ryan Vipond with the weather service in Aberdeen tells South Dakota Public Radio that a cloudless night, a huge high pressure system and dry atmosphere combined to send temperatures plunging.
