Deadly Jones Co. Fire Under Investigation

WYOMING, IOWA (CBS 2/ FOX 28)Rosemary Peck is remembering her neighbor and lifelong friend.
"He was just a good guy, she said. I liked him."
"He always had a nice kind word."
Shes going over the what-ifs, just hours after seeing her neighbor's trailer go up in flames, all that's left behind is a yard now covered in ash.
"I was wishing I could have gotten up earlier and alerted help earlier, and maybe it would have saved his life," Peck said.
The community of Hale Village is asking why.
"He'll be missed by a lot of the people here in this area, I'm sure he will be," Peck said.
The fire which took firefighters seven hours to put out broke out around 3 am.  Authorities recovered the body of the victim an hour into their search.
"There were flames on each side with smoke in the middle," Peck recalls.
Gail Williams could see the fire from his home about a quarter of a mile away.
"I went around back and hollered, and he wasn't there, Williams said. I just assumed that he was inside."
"He probably didn't have a chance to get out."
Leaving behind a neighborhood filled with grief.
"I'm going to miss him," Williams said.
The Wyoming Fire Department says the victim's body is being taken to Ankeny for further investigation.
