Breaking Ground on Veteran's New Home

POLK CITY, Iowa (KCCI-TV) A ground breaking was held Wednesday on a home for an injured Iowa soldier.

Ironwood Homes partnered with Operation FINALLY HOME to honor Nathan Mason who was injured in Afghanistan. He was shot in the leg and suffered a skull fracture.

Plans call for a new home for Mason to be built at 1408 West Washington Avenue in Polk City.

Mason and his wife Cassie were surprised at the Iowa State Fair with the news of their new custom home, which will have three bedrooms and three baths. It will also be handicap accessible for Mason.

The house is scheduled to be completed in the spring.

Iowa real estate developer Knapp Properties donated the lot for the home and supplier Gilcrest Jewett will lend support for the project.
