Key Eye Witness Testifies in Murder Trial
IOWA CITY, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28)--Witnesses with two different stories take the stand in the Johnson County murder trial of Brandon Brown.
He's accused in the shooting death of Donell Lindsey last year.
With no gun or physical evidence linking the defendant to the crime, the prosecution continues to call witnesses to set the scene for the day of the shooting.
"He was like a brother to me...the best friend you can ever have.
That's how the prosecution's key eye witness 35 year old Dimarco Harris described his relationship with the late Donell Lindsey.
He said he along with Lindsey, Byron Fisher, and a group of others had been drinking and hanging out that night when Brandon Brown asked to speak to Lindsey alone.
"He was like lil bern let me holla at you, Harris said.
Harris said he didnt know brown but assumed Lindsey must have.
He said the two men went to the side of the building and although he was distracted, he noticed that they were arguing
"That's when this gentle man right here up the hand gun and shot him, Harris said.
Harris says he didnt call the police after the shooting because he had just gotten out of jail on parole violation the day before.
The defense then asked him whether that is why some members of the victim's family blame him for the murder.
"Ain't nobody even ask me how I feel but it's cool. I mean it's something I got to deal with, he said.
The prosecutor also called in Nicole Blosser, the girlfriend of the suspect's cousin, Ivan.
Ivan was killed in a shoot-out with police in August of last year.
She said Brown came into the apartment she shared with Ivan after the shooting and then they left town.
She said she and Ivan dropped brown off at an apartment building in Chicago then immediately drove back to Iowa City.
Blosser admits she did not come forward with any information about the shooting until police questioned her.
