Website-Building Marathon Helps Give Back to the Community
CEDAR RAPIDS (CBS 2/ FOX 28)-- Creating new websites is something Andrea Skeries could do in her sleep.
It's something that I enjoy doing," Skeries said. "It's a fun way to use my expertise."
But for 24 hours straight --she's volunteered to do the opposite--helping build five websites for local non-profits with no sleep at all.
"There's going to be lots of coffee, she said.
Coffee, food, plus other caffeine will fuel her and the dozen other Geonetric volunteers, burning the midnight oil for "Operation Overnight--a website--building marathon.
"Well be uploading new software, new content, new functionality," said Geonetric owner Eric Engelmann.
To be chosen, each non-profit had to explain how a new website would help them better serve the community.
"We wanted to do something that our team would be passionate about, Engelmann said. This is what we're good at."
It's a gift Anna Patty from Jane Boyd Community House says is about much more than having a pretty webpage.
"If we paid to have something like this done, it would cost thousands upon thousands of dollars, Patty said.
She too will be staying up all night, waiting to see the new layout in the morning.
"I brought my blankey and my pillow," Patty said.
Comforts of home Andrea says she probably won't need.
"It should be pretty easy I think," Skeries said.
