Free Dental Clinic in Des Moines Draws Big Crowd

DES MOINES, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- Some Iowans in need of dental work stayed up late last night waiting for some free procedures.
The makeshift clinic in Des Moines opened this morning at 6:00 o'clock, but some people had been waiting in line for almost 24 hours.
They wanted to make sure they got a good spot in line because only about 1,500 people will get in.
The annual event is sponsored by the Iowa Mission of Mercy.
Volunteers say they keep coming back every year because there is a huge need for free service.
Patients at the clinic can get dental care with no questions asked.
In the 5 previous years of this event, dentists have given away more than $4.5 million worth of free care.
More than 100 dentists are taking part in this free clinic, which runs today and tomorrow.
