Amphitheater Plan Gets State Grant

WAVERLY, Iowa (AP) --
A state group has approved a $78,000 grant to partially fund an amphitheater in a Waverly park.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports Vision Iowa's Enhancement Community Attraction and Tourism program has awarded the grant for the amphitheater in the northeast Iowa city's Kohlmann Park.
Plans call for an 18-foot by 90-foot amphitheater for use during the summer.
The award is contingent on organizers reaching a $300,000 fundraising goal.
Ann Cashman, who helped design the facility, says organizers are within $50,000 of that goal.
Cashman says the state grant will let organizers start accepting bids and it's possible the project could be completed by spring 2014.
