Woman Scared After Wallet Stolen

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS2/FOX28) -- A Cedar Rapids woman is heart-broken after her wallet -- containing her husband's nearly $800 paycheck -- was stolen from her cart at the 29th Avenue Walmart on Friday.

Champain Pulliam said a thief stole her wallet from her shopping cart, where her 1-year-old daughter was sitting, while she turned around to look at someone she knew.

Pulliam and her husband live paycheck to paycheck, as 75 percent of Americans do, according to a recent survey. She is nervous that she won't be able to pay rent or buy groceries. She was even considering pawning her wedding ring.

"Everyone thinks when you go to your own grocery store that you should be safe, but I got proven 100 percent wrong," Pulliam said.

Cedar Rapids police say these kinds of crimes do happen in Cedar Rapids, and people should keep their eyes on their purses and wallets at all time.

A Walmart spokesperson said the store takes situations like this very seriously, but did not see any indication that a trend was developing at that store.
