Details Surface on Navy Yard Shooting

WASHINGTON, DC (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- Helicopters evacuated victims from rooftops after shots rang out at the Washington Navy Yard this morning. "it was like pow, pow pow and then a few seconds it stopped and then it was like pow pow pow" More than a dozen people were shot.. including one police officer.  Navy Commander Tim Jirus says he was standing right next to one of the victims. "it could have easily been me that got hit as opposed to the guy next to me" The attack happened at the Naval Sea Systems Command headquarters where about 3-thousand people work.   "Some folks secured themselves in their office a whole bunch of us said let's go now now emergency exits and we got out of there pretty fast."  Police say one shooter was killed. He is identified as 34 year old Aaron Alexis from Fort Worth, Texas. Officers are still searching for a second possible shooter. THE  NAVY YARD IS ABOUT THREE AND A HALF MILES FROM THE WHITE HOUSE.  THE SHOOTING LED  TO HEIGHTENED SECURITY ACROSS D.C. PRESIDENT OBAMA CALLED THE ATTACK A COWARDLY ACT AND  SPOKE ABOUT THE VICTIMS. "They're patriots and they know the dangers of serving abroad but today they faced violence they wouldn't have expected here at home"
