Man Pleads Guilty To Immigration Charge
WATERLOO (AP) -- A Waterloo man has pleaded guilty to charges involving the employment of workers who were in the country illegally.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says 30-year-old Yu Jiang pleaded guilty Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids to one count of conspiracy to transport, harbor and encourage people in the country illegally to reside in the United States.
Jiang admitted that during 2011 and 2012, he hired the immigrants to work at Hibachi Sushi Buffet restaurant in Waterloo. The workers were provided housing, rides, an apartment and meals at no charge and were paid in cash.
Jiang could face up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. As a citizen of China, he also could be deported.
Sentencing will be set later. Jiang was released on bond.
