4-Year-Old Gives Back
IOWA CITY, IOWA (CBS2/FOX28) -- Like a lot of little girls, Kayli Rose, 4, has a lot of favorite things -- pink and purple are her favorite colors.
But unlike a lot of little girls, Kayli decided to give up her birthday presents this year, and instead, take birthday donations for the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City.
On Wednesday, she handed over a check for $175 -- and she already has some ideas on how the charity should spend it: dolls would be a good start, she said.
But Kayli didn't become this giving on her own. She had some help from her adopted parents -- John and Sharon Rose.
"She's been like this, hasn't she? She knows that she has to give back at times," said Sharon.
Kayli chose the Ronald McDonald House herself -- in part because her biological mother stayed there after Kayli was born 10 weeks premature. John and Sharon are also her great-grandparents. They adopted her shortly after she was born, and the entire family helps take care of her.
"You go to bed thinking about her and you wake up thinking about her. She is just the light of our lives," said Kayli's aunt Janelle Barnes.
The staff say Kayli's $175 gift is enough to let one family live in the house for two weeks for free. The money will go into the charity's general fund.
