Ellis Remembers A&W

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS2/FOX28) -- Former Ellis Boulevard A&W restaurant owner Douglas Ward hosted a classic car fundraiser for the St. James United Methodist Church on Sunday afternoon, just weeks after the building that once housed his restaurant was torn down.

Ward served up classic A&W fare as a part of the event, and said he would love to see another restaurant come to the Ellis neighborhood. But, he said, the city of Cedar Rapids needs to build a levy on the northeast side of town before an investor would consider building there.

"Because somebody's not going to come in here and spend a half a million to $10 million to put a nice restaurant, and one day come to work and see it's got 10 feet of water in it," Ward said.

The money from the event all goes to the St. James general fund, Ward said.
