Iowa Unemployment Rate Rises

DES MOINES, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- Iowa's unemployment rate rose slightly in the month of August to 4.9%.  That's a tenth of a point higher than the previous month but still below the 5.3% rate from one year ago.
Iowa's unemployment rate is still lower than the national average of 7.3%.
"Encouraged by the upward trend in total employment for the year, more Iowans are entering the labor force," said Teresa Wahlert, director of Iowa Workforce Development.  "Iowa's labor force reached its highest level for the year in August at 1,655,300."
A total of 80,800 Iowans are unemployed, up from 79,000 the month before.
