Man Charged with Killing Iowa Woman

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) --
A man captured by police after a dangerous pursuit has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a 30-year-old northern Iowa woman.
The Iowa Department of Public Safety said Tuesday that 39-year-old Tyrone Washington Jr. has been charged in Monday's death of Justina Marie Smith of Northwood.
The department said an autopsy conducted Tuesday concluded that Smith died from "multiple sharp force injuries" and classified her death as a homicide.
Smith was found suffering severe injuries at Swensrud Park in Northwood, where she had called 911 seeking help. Washington was captured hours later more than 220 driving miles away near Walcott, after unsuccessfully attempting to flee from state troopers in Smith's car.
Washington is being held in the Scott County Jail in Davenport on a $500,000 cash-only bond.
